Program Structure

Putting the Canadian Path philosophy into practice, here is the high-level summary of our Troop’s program structure
  • Our Troop Program is for youth ages 11-14. We are 1 of 5 sections within 6th Richmond Hill Group and Scouts Canada's core program. The other sections are Beaver Scout for ages 5-7, Cub Scout for ages 8-10, Venturer Scouts for ages 15-17, and Rover Scouts for ages 18-26

  • Each Scouting Year (September to August) is divided into 4 Cycles - Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Each cycle consists of multiple Thursday regular meetings and a weekend overnight camp

  • In addition, a few Group Events and Special Events are scheduled throughout the year

The basic unit in our Troop is the Patrol. Each patrol consists of 6-7 youths, where they work together and support each other during meetings and camps to accomplish tasks and projects. All 9 patrols belongs to 1 of 3 Patrol Groups in our Troop.

To support Youth Leadership, each Patrol Group is led by a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), and each Patrol is led by a Patrol Leader (PL) and an Assistant Patrol Leader (APL). SPL, PL, and APL are experienced youth willing to take on additional leadership challenges to serve other youths.

In addition, for the purpose of knowledge & skills introduction, youths are grouped by their experience level into 4 Program Teams – Pioneer for Year 1, Voyageur for Year 2, Pathfinder for Year 3, and Trailblazer for Year 4. Each Program team is supported by a dedicated team of 3-5 Scouters. Scouters are adult volunteers providing support and mentorship to youth members in the Troop.
