The 6th Richmond Hill Venturer Company is comprised of youth members from ages 15 - 17. The Venturer program structure differs greatly from Beavers, Cubs and Troop sections in that youth members assume the responsibility of organizing their own events throughout the year. Venturer Scouts learn to nurture an active and healthy lifestyle, acquire the knowledge and skills for career development, and participate in thrilling outdoor adventures. Adult leaders become Scouters, guiding the program planning process as oppose to leading them.
Within the company, up to seven members are voted annually to form the Company Leadership Team. The Company Leadership Team is responsible for the administrative duties of the company such as finances, organizing and evaluation of events, record keeping, and communication to members, the group and the community. It is set up to provide a formal structure for the larger group.
Regular Meetings and Activities
Our regular meetings are held every Thursday, 7:30 - 9:15pm at Crosby Heights Public School. These meetings are used to plan events, prepare and train for certain activities, and occasionally provide service to the rest of the group. For a schedule of our current and future events, please refer to our calendar.
To help develop well rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.
Canadian youth making a meaningful contribution to creating a better world.
Duty to God, Duty to Others, Duty to Self.
- one of the parish groups of Saint Agnes Kouying Tsao Catholic Church and
- an active member in the Scouting Movement - a group in the Shining Waters Council.
In 1995, Scouter Anthony Hung gets in touch with Father Nicole Ruggiero, pastor of the church, to sponsor and establish a Scout Group in our church so that the children in our parish may have a chance to join the international Scouting Movement. The mission is to contribute to educate young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law and with regards to the scouting principles:
- Duty to God
- Duty to Others
- Duty to Self
In September, formal application has been filed to Scouts Canada for their approval and issuance of the Charter. Several leaders and adult members are recruited to assist in kick starting our recruitment process in our church and the neighbouring Chinese schools.
The Group officially receives the Charter from Scouts Canada in June as the 6th Richmond Hill Group in an inauguration ceremony. The first investiture of members then takes place.
The Group starts with Beaver Colony (ages 5 - 7), Cub Pack (ages 8 – 10) and Scout Troop (ages 11 – 14) in 1996. As the youth members and the group grow up, new sections of Venturer Company (ages 14 – 17) and the Rover Crew (ages 18 – 26) are added in 2002 and 2005 respectively. By the end of the group’s first decade, we can now accommodate youth members of all age groups (5 – 26).
As one of the parish groups in the Church and a member in the Scouting Movement, we would always be SHARING, SHARING, SHARING the gifts from God; always BE PREPARED to DO THE BEST on any CHALLENGES and would like to provide SERVICES for the Church and for the benefits of the youth members of the group.
