Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - May 28
(Re:
Annual Advancement 2020 & Spring Registration for 2020-2021 scouting year)

We all need to work together and do our part to stop COVID-19 by staying home, practising physical distancing, and avoiding social gatherings.(Premier Doug Ford – March 30)

We know many youths and parents are concerned about the cancellation of our annual advancement & awards presentation ceremony. While adhering to Scouts Canada's directives and social distancing practice, we have no choice but to cancel the important milestone event in June regrettably. This is the first time ever in our 24 years of scouting.

(A) Advancement & Awards presentation

  • Youth advancement to upper section by age in the next scouting year – still the same as usual.
    • White tail beavers (age of 8 / birth year 2012) will swim up to Cub Pack;
    • Howler cubs (age of 11 / birth year 2009) will go up to Scouts; and
    • Trailblazer scouts (age of 15 / birth year 2005) will advance to Venturer Company.
    • Venturer Scouts (age of 18 / birth year 2002) are invited to register in Rover Crew as a youth program participant; and also registered as a volunteer Scouter helping in youth program in junior sections.
  • Youth progression type awards will be presented in an appropriate occasion; and postponed with a goal to reschedule for the fall of 2020, subject to appropriate logistics are finalized.
    • It covers North Star Award (Beavers), Seeonee Award (Cubs), Chief Scout's Award (Scouts), Queen's Venturer Award (Venturers) and Canadian Rover Scout Award (Rovers) & Religion In Life program awards.
  • Volunteers' Medal Awards & Award for Years of Service will be presented in an appropriate occasion; and postponed with a goal to reschedule for the fall of 2020, subject to appropriate logistics are finalized.

(B) Registration for 2020-2021

Be Prepared! While we're awaiting Scouts Canada's announcement about the spring registration for the 2020-2021 scouting year, let's start preparing for the time to come.

  • For those youth who are qualified for advancement to upper section (e.g. white tail beavers) -- section scouters (of upper section) will contact parents for sharing information with them about the new respective section and keeping in touch for timely registration for the new scouting year.
  • For youth who will stay in the same section – please parents stay tuned for further update on the spring registration.
  • For all parents – Since the registration will be done online, please parents check their profiles with Scouts Canada and make sure there is no login problem. For assistance, please follow the following tutorial page
    • http://6thrichmondhillscoutgroup.org/admin/OnlineRegistration.html

Let’s continue to follow the advice of our pertinent government and health agencies. Stay strong! Stay healthy & virus-free!

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience.

Yours in Scouting.

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - March 31
[back to Top]

The safety and well-being of all youth entrusted to our care remains a top priority for everyone at 6th Richmond Hill Scout Group. We not only have a “duty of care” for youth and Scouters, but also a social responsibility to follow the direction of government and health agencies in helping maintain public health.

Premier Doug Ford extends the provincial state of emergency by 2 weeks on March 30, He emphasizes, “We all need to work together and do our part to stop COVID-19 by staying home, practising physical distancing, and avoiding social gatherings.”

In line with advice provided by provincial and federal government agencies, Scouts Canada continues to suspend all scouting activities. Due to the current pandemic, our Parish continues to cancel all public Masses. The liturgical celebration in Holy Week, the Triduum and Easter will be celebrated without the physical participation of the faithful.

As a follow up to our previous announcement on March 12, we would like to advise the following actions:

  • Our regular meetings will not be resuming on April 9, as previously planned.
  • The Group used to participate in Holy Thursday Mass as a group event. It is on April 9 this year. However, this group event will be cancelled.
  • All meetings and scouting activities are now suspended until further notice.

While adhering to social distancing directives, Scouts Canada initiates Scouting at Home to keep Staying Connected. We encourage members, with due guidance and assistance from parents, to keep up to date on how the community is coming together and keeping engaged. It Starts with Scouts! The online resources:

Let’s continue to follow the advice of our pertinent government and health agencies. Stay strong! Stay healthy & virus-free!

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update vs. Scouting Meetings
[back to Top]

Announcement - March 12, 2020 - 6:00pm

We have been made aware of cancellation of school for the two weeks following March Break. According to the latest Novel Coronavirus Update (March 12, 2020 5:00 pm) in York Region School Board website, "[The School Board has] received notice from the Ontario Ministry of Education that all Ontario schools will remain closed for two weeks following the March break. All Ontario schools will be closed March 16 until April 5, 2020."

Since the closure is not immediate and given the last minute nature, we will continue to have our regular meeting on March 12 for Cubs, Troop & Venturers. Note: no meeting for Beavers!

However, we will cancel all of our activities and meetings after tonight's meeting (March 12) until at least April 5 (and further if necessary). Additional guidance will be provided when it is made available to us.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience. Please parents reach out to Section Scouters if you have any questions related to our meetings and activities.

Cancellation of Variety Show Party

Announcement - Feb 2, 2020
Our group has decided to cancel our Chinese New Year’s party this Thursday (February 6th). We are anticipating uncertain attendance and last minute drop outs, it would be hard to run a smooth event. As a result, we decided to cancel our party. All sections will have their own regular meetings at their own location instead.

Thank you our CNY party planning committee's hard work in the past months.

Novel Coronavirus

Recognizing that many of you may have concerns regarding the novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, I would like to share with you a website by York Region Public Health (YRPH) where you can find updated information as it becomes available: www.york.ca/coronavirus

The health and safety of our members is our top priority at 6th Richmond Hill Scout Group. At this time, YRPH is advising that the risk to York Region residents is low. We will continue all Scouting activities at this point. We are working closely with Scouts Canada and other related agencies to monitor the situation and ensure a safe environment for everyone in our group. We will update everyone from time to time.

Preventing the spread of the disease is similar to preventing the spread of influenza (the flu); YRPH says there are no additional measures that need to be taken at this point.

Here are some tips from YRPH to help us all stay healthy:

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water – or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Cough and sneeze into the bend of your arm or sleeve, or use a tissue, and be sure to cover your mouth; dispose of the used tissue in the garbage and wash your hands
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • If you are sick, stay home until you feel well enough to get back to your regular activities

Our Parish has instructed Parishioners to not attend any Church activities within 14 days of returning from anywhere in China (including Hong Kong). We will apply the same policy, effective immediately. Do not go to any scouting activities within 14 days of any visit to China. This policy applies to all youth members, parents, guardians, and scouters in our group.

If you have any concerns about your health or the health of your family, please contact your doctor or YRPH directly.

Yours in Scouting

Group Mass & Group Field Day (October 27)

We are pleased to introduce our first group event – to celebrate our Group Mass at St Agnes Kouying Tsao Catholic Church on October 27. The Mass is an opportunity for all youth and Scouters to thank God for all the wonderful experience in scouting and with our Group.

This is the Group Field Day in the Fall on the same day as well. Our Group continues adopting Calvert Park as an Adopt-A-Park partner with Town of Markham this year again. Participating members, youth and Scouters, will help clean up the park together. Taking this opportunity at the park, we will take a group photo too.

We welcome all members, parents, scouters and families to come celebrate the Group Mass together and to join the Group Field Day for fun. Both are scheduled on October 27, 2019.

We hope everyone has enjoyed the summer time and is now looking forward to the new scouting year.

The Group would like to welcome all new & returning youth members; and new & returning scouters.
